The entry-level smartphone was first unveiled in China back in November and is now making its way to India. It’ll be available in three variants, starting at ₹6,999. It will go on sale from May 23 on Amazon and Mi.com.

The phone comes with a 5-inch HD IPS display with screen resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, with 296ppi. There is a 2.5D screen on top of the display. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 435 octa-core SoC.

The Redmi 4 comes equipped with a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and phase detection autofocus (PDAF) support. There is also a 5-megapixel front-facing snapper for selfies and video calling.

The device also features a fingerprint sensor placed at the back for added security. It is powered by a 4,100mAh battery, which looks good enough to last more than a day on a single charge. As per the Chinese giant, the device can offer up to 36 hours of talktime and up to 430 hours on standby mode.

Connectivity options on the device include dual-SIM card slots (hybrid SIM setup), 4G with VoLTE support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS. On the software front, the device runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow wrapped under MIUI 8 out-of-the-box.

As of the pricing, the 2GB RAM/ 16GB storage variant has been priced at ₹6,999, the 3GB RAM/ 32GB storage variant has been priced at ₹8,999, while the 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage is priced at ₹10,999. It will be available in two color variants — Matte Black and Elegant Gold.

While the phone goes on sale from May 23, the pre-booking begins today. The pre-booking amount is ₹1,000 and it guarantees a unit will be available at the newly opened Mi Home Store (only for the Bengaluru crowd at this instant). And if it goes out of stock, an F-Code will be provided for redemption on Mi.com.
